What is a Blaxit and why are we doing it?

Black Travelers are preparing to live the lives they REALLY want and deserve!

Blacks all over the internet are talking about Blaxit. Yes, it sounds like Brexit, but that ain’t it. Brexit is from the two words, Britain and exit. Similarly, Blaxit is the combination of the two words, Black and Exit, however, a more accurate descriptor would be Black and Expatriate.

What is an Expatriate?

An expatriate is simply a person who lives outside of their country of origin. This may be on a temporary or permanent basis. Individuals who “blaxit” are Black people who decide to live outside of their country of birth, specifically the United States. As we know from recent social and political histories, the United States is becoming less safe for its citizens with Black skin. A lack of safety for Black people has never gone away. It has been a part of our experience since we were ‘brought’ to American soil. The social presentation of danger, discrimination and denied opportunities has ebbed and flowed over these multiple generations.

From the Underground Railroad to Modern Day Blaxit

Black Americans have been on “the move” at various times for similar reasons: safety, freedom and economic opportunity. Our foremothers and forefathers escaped slavery by migrating (read: fleeing) to the north through the Underground Railroad. Other freed Black people relocated to the country of Liberia, believing they could have safer and more prosperous lives on the continent of Africa. During the Jim Crow era, there was the Great Migration were Blacks left southern states to northern and western states. During this same time, many entertainers, writers and artists expatriated to countries in Europe, like Josephine Baker, James Baldwin, Nina Simone and Richard Wright. Also during in the 20th century, Black Americans, like Dr. Maya Angelou, left America for other African countries like Ghana.

The Blaxit Community: You are not alone!

This is why websites like Blaxit Global (www.blaxitglobal.com) and YouTube channels like Melanin Man Travels (YT: @melaninmantravels) are so important. As a community, we are here to motivate, educate and provide resources for Black Men and Women who have realized that America is no longer working for them.

The concept of expatriation for Black people is not a new one. The current social movement called Blaxit is undergirded by reasons other than a lack of safety in America. Additional rationale include a search for a better quality of life, ability to retire comfortably, or work and earn a living outside of the structures of Corporate America. Black people have always been industrious and resourceful. Our mere survival in this country is proof of this fact. We will always find a way to rise above circumstances and thrive. As a Black Man, these are all reasons for my Blaxit. My social platform is designed to help other Black Single men to Blaxit as well.

As you follow my journey, my goal is for you to discover commonalities in my personal reasons for leaving, the places I will go and how I make my decisions. Hopefully, you will be motivate to Blaxit too!
