Welcome to Melanin Man Travels!
Traveling is my happy place (no pun intended – well maybe a little bit). Creating a life, experiencing a life, living a life anew and fresh is what I strive for every time I board a plane and touchdown somewhere new. If you are reading this post and joining us on this travel journey, then travel is your ‘jam’ too. When and where did the travel bug bite you? Over the years, I have been bitten multiple times.
Before we get too deep, who am I?
I am unapologetically Black! I am uniquely Queer. I am distinctly a MAN. My diverse identity unmistakably shapes how I move in these international streets. As a college grad, educated by the world and the classroom, I have spent time working professionally in Corporate America, as well as in Non-Profit and Academic spaces. Being an avid reader, spending time on a tropical beach with a book in hand, is pure bliss. However, bike riding in a foreign city experiencing cool neighborhoods and diverse architecture is the type of adventure that also defines me.
Although, a lot of my travel are solo experiences, I do enjoy a jaunt to a new or familiar place with my close friends and family.
What can you expect as you experience the future posts
on this blog?
You will go on a journey with me through my life. Not my full life, but portions that have led to my love of travel – the good and the not so good – and where travel has and is taking my life. Can you say Blaxit?! I will share how my interest in international travel began earlier in life with my first trip out of the continental US, a trip to the island of Jamaica. Or my first solo trip to Chicago, Illinois that was a result of having an unused plane ticket that was expiring.
It has been said that ‘travel is the cure for ignorance’. I love this quote and you will see it again. It is true. I have learned a lot about life and about myself. Travel is truly a healer. The journey has been rich thus far and I want to share it with all of you. And I want to offer you a chance to share with me as well, as you can reach me through the comments section of the website.
